The 2-0 Titans Women’s team were in for a huge battle against the 2-0 Lethbridge Rugby Club this weekend with both teams loaded up with talented players. The game was action packed with the teams trading tries and the lead throughout the first half. The second half spun in the Titans direction as they quickly built a 21-point lead, however Lethbridge refused to quit as they clawed their way back in front 55-51 with just a couple minutes remaining in the game. The Titans weren’t done however, regaining control of the ball on a lineout steal around half. The team then went six phases with Rachel Sever moving the ball quickly from the ruck until Emma Newton executed a perfect offload to the speedy Leah Brunner who wasn’t going to be denied scoring the game winning try!!
The game ended 58-55 in favor of the Titans, however the real winner were the spectators who, despite “interpretive” rules, were treated to a spectacular and action pack game that included two teams loaded with talent from University, Provincial and National programs. It was an amazing display of skill, toughness, and composure by both teams. The two teams won’t have to wait long to battle again as the rematch is slated for this Saturday in Lethbridge. Titan’s Forward of the Game was Sierra Laye, who was brilliant at hooker for the day, showing amazing ball handling skills, footwork and tackling. Back of the Game was Erin McFadden who put on a fantastic show of skill and defence facing off against her “University of Lethbridge Pronghorn” teammates. After leaving the Lethbridge team battered and bruised, scoring two tries and setting up a couple more Courtney Holtkamp was selected as the opposition’s Player of the Match.
Tries scored: Leah Brunner(2), Courtney Holtkamp(2), Sierra Laye, Sarah Fraser, Lora Lee, Rachel Sever, Emma Newton, Molly Ruhmor
