U 18 Girls Win Provincial Championship

The Junior Women were impressive with their controlled annihilation of the north champion Lep/Tiger 25 - 0.  The young ladies took the opening kick off and worked through 8 phases before being stopped short of the line.  The Titans scrums and disciplined defense proved too tough and the Titans owned the ball all night long.

Captain and University of Lethbridge recruit, Bernie LaRose, scored two tries as did Monica Hehli of Rimbey.  The single try was scored by Rocky resident, Jovita Byzitter.  The Titans compiled a 6 - 1 record to capture the Provincial Title for the third time in four years;  2004, 2005, 2007.  Last year the Titans won the Alberta Summer Games Gold in the prestigious sevens tournament.  Much credit needs to go the Central Alberta High School League Coaches.  This years' team had representation from every school in the h.s. league including Rimbey, Olds, Rocky, LTCHS, HHHS and Notre Dame.

Special recognition is needed for the excellent coaching staff of Anita LaRose, Bill Bowd, Ciaran Ormond, Courtney Armstrong, and senior womens' coach, Matthew Burton.  A very strong coaching staff indeed.  Well done, Titans!

Titans Women Leads
Series 10-0-0

It took us a few mintues to get into the game, once we did, Anita had two tryes and three convertion. Nicole Bernie Shannon and Ursula all scored one try each. Half Time Titans were leading 36-0. In the second half Shannon and Bernie both had their second try and Anita with a convertion. We called the game 12mins onto the second half  due to an injury to an Irish player, winning 48-0. The backs were attacking extremely well and the forwards had some great steals in the line outs. The Titans women plays are coming together as planned.

Titans' Men Dominate but
Still Not Real Happy

The Titans First Div. Men improved their record to 8 - 4 with a very convincing 38 - 10 win over the Edmonton Lep/Tigers at Titans Rugby Park.  Coach Rob Manson made a few changes to the lineup for the starters and expected more scoring in the first half yet the Titans lead 24 - 0 at the break.   A new backline had plenty of ball to work with but just didn't click on several glorious opportunities where the ball failed to find hands or hands failed to collect the pass.  For the second game in a row the Titans were frustrated with several penalties against which numbered 18 - 7 by the final whistle.  Does the dominate team always give up more penalties against?

The Titans struggled to complete any scoring opportunites in the first 20 min. until Jon Mauro seized the moment and score a 50 m. try on an interception. Kyle Kaus got the first of two as the locals finally moved the ball wide after a series of rucks to put Kyle across in the corner.  Kenton Poelzer continued his scoring ways as the boys passed the ball efficiently through the hands to the open man on the wing - just like the book says.  Captain Dan Meikle dotted down after some impressive forward drives with kicker Wade Moore converting twice to give the 24 - 0 half lead.

With changes in the second half the Club seemed to play with more intensity in the final 15 min. where they scored two nice tries; the first by Moore and the nicest one of the night by Kaus cracking the line and faking a pass to get by the last defense.  Still the early second half was frustrating as penalties added up and Dylan Mason and Shelby Smith were both banished to the sinbin leaving the Club two short for about 7 minutes.  Both calls were mysterious.  The Lep/Tigers scored on two situations where they intercepted as hesitant decision making by the Red Deer team lead to turnovers and interceptions.

Some of the boys are off to Banff for the Tens Tournament while others are just off for the relaxing long weekend.  Next match against the very tough first place, 10 - 1 Calgary Irish at 3:30 Aug. 11 at Titans.

Titans Senior Women Improve Record to 10 - 0 With Another Mismatch

Anita LaRose lead the charge with two tries and 4 conversions as the mighty Womens' team continue to flex their power in the league. Bernie LaRose had 2 tries while single tries went to former CIAU Allstar Ursula Patterson, Shannon Court, Nicole Leontowicz, and Dayle Clampitt.  Next match for the ladies is on Sat., Aug. 11 in Banff.
