Week 10 – U13 Provincials Update and Weekend matchups

Following along with our arbitrary week numbers, here is the update for week 10…

If you recall, the Titans U13 boys achieved the milestone of making it to the Provincial Championships!  This occurred on July 18th at Ellerslie  Rugby Park, home of the Edmonton Rugby Union.  The U13 boys began the day against a very tough Nor’westers team.  They fought hard, but ended up losing to the south Edmonton team.  A few hours later, our U13 Boys faced off against the Calgary Canucks U13 squad in a consolation final, but also lost that match.  It was a disappointing day for our U13 boys, but they played like Titans and did not give up.  They are all better for the experience and we hope they will all be ready to go for next season!  Thank you U13 Boys for such a great season!

There were no other scheduled matches on July 18th due to volunteer requirements of Westerner Days.

Fast forward a bit, and here’s the rundown from this past weekend:

  • Titans 3rd division men faced off against the Calgary Knights at Irish Field on Friday night.  It was a bit of a barn burner I’m told and there are rumors of fisticuffs.  The Titans 3rds lost this one 31 – 20, but in true rugby fashion after dusting it up with the Knights on the field, they shared a beer or two afterward off the field.
  • Saturday afternoon brought us a few games, leading off with the Titans Senior Women at home to the Airdrie Highlanders.  Our Titans won that decision handily by a score of 51 – 15. (EDIT: I originally had this as an away game and changed it. )
  • The Titans 2nd division men traveled to Okotoks to measure up against the Lions, and measure up they did with a final score of 28 – 17 in favor of the Titans, despite yellow cards and at least one purple jersey in the sin bin. (Featured photo – the team getting things together).  More photos here, thanks to Ellie Gerhardt.

Thanks to everyone who may have played more than one game this weekend!  That’s hard to do, and mad respect to all who took the field with purple on their chest.

That’s all for this past weekend, next weekend is August long, and there is not currently any Titans Rugby scheduled.  Look to August 8th, where all Titans Senior Teams are in action!

TITAN UP!!
